Rosy Barb (Pethia conchonius) is a popular, colorful, and highly resilient freshwater fish native to the subtropical rivers and lakes of South Asia. Belonging to the family Cyprinidae, they are celebrated for their active personalities, shimmering metallic scales, and beginner-friendly care requirements.

Key Characteristics

Appearance: They feature a torpedo-shaped body with golden, copper, and rose-pink scales, ending with a distinct black spot near the tail. Males develop a deep, vibrant red flush during mating periods, while females remain a softer gold or silver color.
- Size: They are among the larger barb species, commonly reaching 4 to 6 inches (10 to 15 cm) in length.
- Lifespan: With proper care, they typically live between 4 to 6 years.

Because of their subtropical origins, Rosy Barbs are incredibly hardy and can even tolerate cooler water conditions better than many tropical fish.
- Tank Size: A minimum of 30 gallons is required for a small school, though larger tanks (55+ gallons) are ideal to accommodate their active, looping swimming bursts.
- - Water Temperature: They prefer temperatures between 64°F and 79°F (18°C to 26°C).
  - Water Chemistry: Aim for a pH of 6.5 to 8.0 and a moderate water hardness.
  - Diet: As omnivores, they happily consume high-quality flake food, pellets, algae, and frozen or live treats like brine shrimp and bloodworms.
  Tankmate Compatibility
  
  Rosy Barbs are generally peaceful but busy neighbors. Because of their boisterous nature and occasional tendency to nip, choose tankmates carefully:
  - Good Tankmates: Sturdy, fast-moving fish like Danios, Swordtails, Loaches, Sturdy, fast-moving fish like Danios, Swordtails, Loaches, Corydoras, and larger Tetras.
