Polar Parrot Fish

The Polar Parrot Fish (most commonly known as the Polar Blue Parrot Cichlid or Panda Parrot) is a highly popular, man-made hybrid freshwater fish. It is a unique cross between a Blood Parrot Cichlid and a short-bodied Convict Cichlid. These fish are famous for their compact, heart-shaped bodies, balloon-like appearance, and striking dark tiger stripes over a shimmering pale blue or platinum background.

Size: Males grow up to 4 inches (10 cm), while females stay slightly smaller at around 2.5 inches (6 cm).
Lifespan: With proper aquarium care, they can live for 10 to 15 years.
Temperament: They are highly intelligent, animated, and interactive—often recognizing their owners. However, they possess "convict cichlid genetics," making them territorial and semi-aggressive, especially when breeding.
Diet: Omnivorous. They thrive on high-quality cichlid pellets or flakes. You can supplement their food with protein (bloodworms or brine shrimp) and blanched vegetables to prevent digestive issues.
Tank Setup: They need a minimum of 150 liters (approx. 40 gallons) with efficient filtration. Because they are messy eaters and prone to territorial disputes, providing plenty of caves and hiding spots is essential.
Breeding: They are incredibly prolific and easy to breed in a home aquarium. They are egg-layers that fiercely guard their fry inside caves or clay pots.
