Serpae tetra (Hyphessobrycon eques), also known as the Red Minor tetra or Jewel tetra, is a popular, flame-colored freshwater fish native to the Amazon River basin. They are highly favored by both beginner and experienced hobbyists for their vibrant red hue, hardiness, and dynamic schooling behavior.  

• Tank Size: 20 gallons minimum is highly recommended for a proper community setup.
• Water Temperature: Prefers a tropical climate between 72°F and 79°F (22°C to 26°C).
• pH Range: Thrives in soft, slightly acidic to neutral water with a pH of 6.0 to 7.5.
• Diet: Omnivorous. They easily eat high-quality flake food, micro-pellets, and frozen or live treats like bloodworms and brine shrimp.
• Lifespan: Typically lives for 5 to 7 years with stable water parameters.

• Temperament & Schooling Behavior
  Serpae tetras are schooling fish that must be kept in groups. You should keep a minimum of 6 individuals, though a group of 10 or more is ideal. If kept alone or in too small a group, they frequently become stressed and establish a severe pecking order, leading to aggressive fin-nipping against their tankmates.
