Light gray sand is one of the most versatile and visually balanced choices for an aquarium substrate. Sitting perfectly between bright white and stark black, it provides excellent contrast for fish and plants without dominating your aquascape. Unlike white sand, light gray is highly practical because it does a much better job of concealing fish waste, algae, and organic debris (mulm). It also reduces bright light reflections, which can sometimes stress timid fish species.
