Aqua Medic AntiPhos Fe

Aqua Medic Anti Phos Fe is a high-efficiency iron-based phosphate and silicate remover used in aquarium filtration to reduce nutrients that cause algae growth.

Key specs

  • Type: Chemical filter media (iron-based GFO)
  • Material: Granulated ferric oxide (iron compound)
  • Use: Freshwater & marine aquariums
  • Form: Granules (used in filter bag or reactor)
  • Function: Removes phosphate (PO₄) + silicate (SiO₂)
  • Capacity: approx. 10 g phosphate per 1 kg media
  • Duration: ~3–6 months (depending on nutrient load)

What it does

  • Reduces phosphate and silicate levels in water
  • Prevents and controls algae growth
  • Improves water clarity and stability
  • Supports reef coral health by limiting excess nutrients
  • Works passively (no chemicals released back into water)

How to use

You can use Anti Phos Fe in three common ways:

1. Filter bag (simplest method)

  • Rinse media with RO or aquarium water before use
  • Place into a fine mesh filter bag
  • Put in a high-flow filter area or sump chamber

2. Canister filter

  • Place between filter sponges where water flows evenly through it
  • Avoid crushing the granules

3. Media reactor (best performance)

  • Use a fluidized reactor with gentle tumbling movement
  • Provides maximum efficiency and lifespan

Recommended dosage

  • Marine aquarium: ~50–100 ml per 100 liters of water
  • Freshwater aquarium: ~25–50 ml per 100 liters of water

Important dosing rules:

  • Start with 50% of recommended dose in reef tanks
  • Increase slowly if phosphate is still high
  • Never reduce phosphate too quickly (can stress corals)
  • Replace when phosphate starts rising again or after saturation

Important notes

  • Always rinse before first use (removes dust particles)
  • Ensure moderate water flow (not too strong, not stagnant)
  • Do not compact tightly in a filter bag
  • Regularly test phosphate levels (PO₄ test kit recommended)
  • Overuse can cause too-rapid nutrient drop in reef tanks

Who it’s for

  • Reef tanks with algae or high phosphate issues
  • Freshwater aquariums using tap water with nutrients
  • Aquarists needing long-term phosphate control
  • Medium to large aquarium systems

Not ideal for

  • Tanks already running ultra-low nutrients (ULNS systems)
  • Beginners who don’t test water parameters
  • Systems without any filtration flow
